Covid-19 Uncertainty
The availability of safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines allows us all to gather again as a community of membraneologists.
We are conducting an in-person meeting and will follow whatever public safety guidelines are extant in Larimer County, CO at the time.
As of August 2, 2021, Boulder and Larimer Counties are 74 and 65%, respectively, fully vaccinated for age 12+. At the meeting, we are asking all attendees to wear masks (even if vaccinated) in the indoor meeting spaces, unless eating, drinking, or speaking. Seats will be spaced for social distancing and many events are either outdoors or in highly ventilated areas.
In all cases, the content of the meeting has been developed from the invited and submitted abstracts provided by you…Our NAMS Community of Interest.
Prof. Kristi Anseth – University of Colorado Boulder
Dr. Anseth is a Distinguished Professor, Tisone Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Head of Academic Leadership of the BioFrontiers Institute at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research interests lie at the interface between biology and engineering where she designs new biomaterials for applications in drug delivery and regenerative medicine. Dr. Anseth is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering (2009), the National Academy of Medicine (2009), the National Academy of Sciences (2013), and the National Academy of Inventors (2016). She is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the Materials Research Society. Dr. Anseth currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Board of Trustees for the Gordon Research Conferences, on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Allen Institute, and is an editor for Biomacromolecules and Progress in Materials Science.

Dr. Green is responsible for NREL’s science and research goals, strengthening the laboratory’s core capabilities, and enhancing NREL’s research portfolio. In addition, he oversees the Laboratory Directed Research and Development Program, NREL-university interactions, and the postdoctoral research program. Prior to his appointment at NREL, Dr. Green spent 20 years in academia (UT Austin and University of Michigan), and 11 years at Sandia National Laboratories. At University of Michigan, he served as chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the director of the Energy Department’s Energy Frontiers Research Center: Center for Solar and Thermal Energy Conversion. Dr. Green served as president of the Materials Research Society, and is fellow of American Physical Society, the American Ceramics Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science
Prof. Thomas Schäfer – POLYMAT, University of the Basque Country
Dr. Schäfer is Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Basque Centre for Macromolecular Design and Engineering (POLYMAT) in Donostia/San Sebastián, Spain. He leads a multi-disciplinary research group in the field of nanobiotechnology/membrane separations initially funded by the European Research Council. Thomas earned his BSc from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and MSc in Chemical Engineering with focus on animal cell culture from the Technical University Hamburg. He obtained his PhD from Universidade Nova de Lisboa in membrane separation processes and has worked as a postgraduate and postdoctoral researcher at Wageningen University, University of New South Wales, University of Siena, University of Pisa, as well as University of Tarragona.
Thomas has served as elected member of the council of the EMS and co-organizes the biannual “Imagine Membrane” conference series in close collaboration between NAMS and EMS. He has been very active in discussing the future of young researchers in Europe as Chair of the COST Targeted Network “Sci-Generation” and as co-founder of the Young Academy of Europe. Abstract Submission NAMS 2021
Thank you for submitting an abstract to the 2021 North American Membrane Society meeting at this link.
Here is quick guide to submitting abstracts. Also, please note the following submission instructions:
1) Please limit your abstract submission to < 2000 characters.
2) Please select a primary subject area that represents the best match for your oral presentation abstract. If your work spans more than one subject area, you may designate a secondary subject area, but your work will first be reviewed by the session chairs in the primary subject area. Session descriptions will be available on the NAMS website (www.membranes.org) in the NAMS 2021 area.
3) If you wish to be considered ONLY for the poster session, please choose “Poster Session” as your primary subject area. Students are encouraged to submit both oral and poster submissions as there will be a student poster competition (these can be duplicate)
4) Do NOT submit to the Award recipient, Plenary lecture, Convergence, or Debate subject areas unless previously invited.
5) You may edit your abstract up until the abstract submission deadline of Tuesday 1st June, 2021 at 11:59PM MT.

The Ridgeline Hotel, Estes Park, CO is the main meeting hotel and venue site.
There are only 147 rooms available there, so first come, first served. NAMS has guaranteed all the rooms for the evenings of Sunday – Tuesday August 29-31, 2021—the only guests in the hotel will be NAMS participants.
Please click this link to access their reservation system.
Our overall room rate block rates run for check-in August 27 to check-out September 2, 2021, but the default on the reservation site link is August 25 to September 5, 2021. Transportation NAMS 2021
From Denver International Airport (DIA) to Estes Park one needs to drive, use a private car service, or take a shuttle.
While you are in Estes Park, you are unlikely to need a personal car. We arranged with Rocky Mountain Transit Management, (970) 577-7477, to provide some in-town shuttle services between the hotels and tours into Rocky Mountain National Park. They will also have trips to DIA leaving after noon on Thurs. Sep 2. Individuals can also make reservations with them for pick-up from DIA and transit to Estes Park.
After the meeting’s early registration, we will endeavor to create a carpool sign-up for arrivals on Sat & Sun, Aug 28 & 29 whom we can accommodate with rented vans driven by meeting aides.
There are many commercial shuttle services that one can contract:
