Elias Klein Founders' Travel Awards

The Elias Klein Founders' Travel Awards program supports students needing limited financial assistance ($500) to attend a NAMS Annual or ICOM Meeting to present their research (oral or poster presentation). This award program is named in honor of Elias Klein, whose vision and spirit guided the founding of NAMS in 1985.

Students who are either NAMS members or will register for the Annual NAMS Meeting are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to students who have not received any prior financial assistance from NAMS.

Application materials (submitted as one electronic PDF file)

  • the following items must be submitted as a single PDF file or the application will be rejected:
  • one-page resume describing the applicant’s education (including undergraduate and graduate GPA),
  • the title and abstract of applicant’s oral presentation or poster,
  • description of your need for financial assistance to attend the NAMS annual meeting, and
  • one-page nomination letter by faculty supervisor who is a current member of NAMS; each faculty supervisor may nominate only a single student for the Klein Travel award.

Application deadlines and review
Application packages must be received by March 15, 2012 per e-mail to Ingo Pinnau, ingo.pinnau@kaust.edu.sa. Applications will be reviewed by the NAMS Awards Committee. Award decisions will be made as soon as possible.

All Awards Committee votes will be independently tallied by the Tellers Committee. If one or more Tellers Committee members also are Awards Committee members, all such members will be replaced by Board appointees for the purpose of validating the results of award voting only.

We expect to provide up to 10 Elias Klein Founders’ Travel Awards, depending on the funds available. Questions regarding the application procedures should be addressed to:
